Where should I go for a weekend mini-vacation on the East Coast-ish?

My girlfriend and I are celebrating our anniversary and I want to surprise her with a little (hopefully) weekend getaway. We live about an hour South of Pittsburgh so really anywhere east of us should be ok. Money is a bit tight so I'm looking for somewhere with decent inexpensive things to do. I was thinking Philly, DC, or Boston. Any other suggestions? I don't want to do the Poconos because of the money situation so that's why I thought of these places. I figure we could always sight see for basically free and grab an inexpensive bite. I'm just wondering what anyone thought of those 3 cities and any other thoughts. Thanks!

How about a nice B&B in Newport RI. Or Salem, Mass. is nice and reasonable this time of year, and it is also close to Plymouth Mass too. Cape May NJ is beautiful. Annapolis, MD is also an alternative.
