Where should I solo hike in Maui?

Is it safe to hike alone in Maui as a female? I assume the most popular trails should be fine, but I was wondering where I should go, and hoping to get some thoughts about safety. I plan on taking a knife but not sure if that is legal! Any thoughts on hiking in Maui out there? I will be staying in Kihei, so stuff around there will be great.
 
Hiking by yourself is NEVER a good idea regardless of age, fitness level, or sex.

If you do hike alone, I would suggest you let someone know exactly where you plan to go and when you expect to be home just in case something happens to you, they'll know where to send the rescue crews.

As for hiking with a knife, it's not illegal for you to have a knife on hand......
