Where to stay....Hollywood or Santa Monica?

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to America this year spending 3 nights in LA. We want to know where to stay, Santa Monica or Hollywood? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
 
santa monica

its near the beach and gives off more of the touristy feel of california


only go to hollywood if you want all your dreams shattered. its a trashy city full of hobos and crime

santa monica has 3rd street promenade, the pier, venice beach and more
 
Definitely stay in Santa Monica, much nicer and you can easily go to and fro everywhere from there. Hollywood is fun, clubs etc...but not as pretty by far. Parts are not that nice. You will get more of the LA experience in Santa Monica.

If you do stay in Hollywood, the best place to stay is the Roosevelt; a great place for a meal or drinks too.
