I am writing an essay about the war on drugs and how the US should legalize some drugs to end this war. which intro is better?
There have been 7,000 plus deaths in Mexico related to the drug war declared by Mexico in 2007. The United States has been fighting the drug war on the border since the Regan administration. The Mexican government is fighting to maintain control of 18 states where traffickers are fighting for access to the American drug market. The focus of guns and military presence in the war on drugs has only helped to raise the level of violence while traffickers seek access to the American market. Wouldn’t the war be better fought with taking away the market and legalizing the drug ? If it is no long illegal to sell the drugs the need for guns to secure delivery would be taken away and the countries could tax the products.
OR
The "War on Drugs" is America's battle against prohibition of illegal substances that has been ongoing for the past forty years. This war represents America's struggle to keep control over the production and usage of drugs. After so many years of failed attempts to try to erradicate producers of these substances and punish the users, I believe it is time for the United States goverment to take action and implement a new system of laws regarding drug usage in America. In my opinion, it is to the best benefit of both Americans as well as the citizens of the many countries affected by the drug war for the United States to legalize and control the production, sale, and usage of certain drugs; because not only are we saving lives, we are saving money and resources.
