which is the easiest way to wire trailer lights for a 2004 jeep wrangler?

i have just a plain four wire plug to wire in and i have connectors. i would like to do it myself, but am unsure where it would be easier and best to get at the wires, and i need to know which wire goes to which signal ex: brakes, blinkers, running lights, etc.

Here's what I have done on several different vehicles. There is a connector built into the truck wiring harness that is often right behind the rear license plate. At Walmart or auto parts places you can get a connector that goes in this junction and provides a trailer plug all in one step.
Way more reliable than separate connectors and tape.
