...decks , fences etc? I have heard a lot of information about trucks and which is the most reliable. It seems that toyotas are great but very expensive to purchase, even used. American trucks are a lot cheaper but i am worried about reliability. Not that they are unreliable, I just want a cheap truck for my carpentry business. The dilema always seems to be: a) buy a toyota from 1992 for $6000 with 250oookm or b) ford/ chev for $2300 but needs a new transmission. This is just one example and i hope it is relevant. What is the best economical choice? Incidently, my parents are from England and my inlaws are from Texas, and that provides a very biased set of people to ask advice from. I was looking for non biased technical advice. Thank you for any help.

Toyotas are known to be reliable, but they're not known for their great payload capacities. If you're hauling a lot of lumber, I think you're going to want a larger pickup, or possibly a trailer - actually, I like working off of a trailer. Since you're running a business, you might find better deals on a new truck, since you might be able to deduct part (or all) of it. Those kinds of decisions are best made in combination with your accountant, but this might be a good time to get some great deals. I read in the news they're going to be adding a tax credit for people buying new vehicles, too. As a business owner, you really should be talking to your accountant about this, they might save you a lot of money here.
