Which uses less electricity: Washing dishes by hand or washing them in

the dishwasher? I am assuming that the dishwasher does not heat the water beyond the temperature the hot-water heater does AND that the dishwasher is new albeit not necessarily not the most energy-efficient model AND that you do NOT use the dishwasher's heated dry cycle BUT you do use its longest cycle (e.g. pot-scrubber cycle – or whatever). I also realize there are many variables -- e.g. how conservative you are with the hot water when you wash dishes by hand and whether your water comes from a well (meaning you pay for the electricity for the water pump) but still can someone give me a reasonable answer OR point me to a Web site where I could figure this out myself. Thanks so much.
 
A dish washer takes at least 1/2 of an hour or better and the cost of the soap,by hand is far more cheaper as far as energy goes.
