Which would you rather prefer the HTC Fuze or the iPhone3g?

I'm getting a phone for one of my friends for his birthday present. I've narrowed it down to these 2 phones. The reason I'm stuck is because for the iPhone the only reason I know he doesn't want it is because he doesn't want to pay for the data package so I would get an unlocked iPhone. Other than that I think that he would enjoy the HTC Fuze just because a lot of people do not have this phone, but of course again...nothing compares to how much functional the iPhone 3G is. HELP me decide!!!
 
Consider that both the iPhone and the Fuze are Smartphones.

So, why would you buy/want to use a Smartphone which is designed for data usage (internet/email/Instant Messaging and so on) ?

Get him a nice phone which is NOT a data phone.

Samsung A767 Propel is a good phone and it's not bad looking.
