Clay Matthews- 28 tackles, 8 sacks on the season. Didn't start until half way through the month of October. Wasn't considered the primary pass rusher until Aaron Kampman went on IR. Has done very well as a hybrid 3-4 OLB.

Brian Cushing- 69 tackles, 2.5 sacks. Has played very well as a 4-3 OLB.

Obviously we cannot compare stats too much as they both play very different roles. Matthews being in the 3-4 is expected to have more sacks. Cushing being in the 4-3 is expected to have more tackles. Cushing has played the full season, and has performed very well. Matthews didn't start until half way through October and didn't start becoming a dominating player until after Kampman went on IR. Matthews played sparingly and played well in the first month and a half and played very good until Kampman was injured.

So, who deserves Defensive Rookie of the Year? Brian Cushing who played decent all year or Clay Matthews who began the season as a backup, worked his way to a standard 3-4 OLB, and finally into his current role of a Hybrid OLB?
Ah, I did indeed forget about Brian Orakpo. I forgot he has 8 sacks on the season as well. Very impressive for a 4-3 OLB.
Wow, 8 interceptions for a rookie Safety is impressive in Byrd. I heard his name, but thought he kind of dropped off a little. Those are solid numbers though.

I should have been more specific with Cushing's numbers. He has 64 Solo Tackles, 102 Tackles alltogether. No need for any insults. Facts are facts. Stats are stats.
