Who wrote the books about the?

Who rote the books about each individual states...i.e. alaska, arizona, arkansas, virginia, etc. They are kind of westerns. Wasn't it John Jakes? And where do I go to get a complete list of them? If it wasn't John Jakes, then who was it? Thank you in advance.

I read a biography about Jim Morrison. It was a great read. I reccommend going to the biography section of your library, because not only will you find biographies written by other people, you will also find autobiographies, a self account.
