Why are conservatives so anti-science and so pro-religion?

The scientific community accepts the big bang, the 4.3 billion year history of Earth as a planet, evolution, and man made global warming.

This is what is taught in all the universities (except ones like Jerry Fallwells Liberty religious university) and accepted by all the well established scientific organizations. Please don't confuse a scientific organization with a POLITICAL WEBSITE (CATO, Heritage, junkscience.com).

So what is about conservatives that makes them ignore and deny scientific facts that go against their beliefs.

Shouldn't people shape their beliefs based on the facts instead of ignoring or twisting the facts to fit with their beliefs?
