Why are people still buying Gas guzzling SUV's?

Is everyone rich and I am the only poor person around. Even if I had a lot of money to burn I still don't see the point in buying these huge gas guzzling giants. They are not practical for driving around town with tring to park and in bad traffic and with the gas prices going up to $5 soon that's paying big bucks at the pump. Yeah I heard the craze was to buy one for extra safety but these giants flip over easy you see it all on the time on the news I dont get it.

Got to remember only 10% of the people have brains and the other 90% can't see beyond their nose, let alone see from their noses to their finger tips. They! are the so called "KNOW IT ALL'S" and cry babies, they whine and complain all the time, and seem to be broke... Alot of these people that drive these big cars are on food stamps and receiving government assistance...

Its been more of a trend thing than anything else. It has more visibility it is higher up. People belive it is safer it is heavy than a same size car without the height. More components to fix uses alot of petrol if it is not diesel. They don't handle and brakes need to be good for the weight. For the new buyers of these cars after 3years or less wait to they see the cost of a replacement tyre it is significantly more than a passenger sedan tyre.

because they are safer.my 2 daughters were in a headon in a chevy cavalier.i lost my baby, almost lost my oldest.my oldest is now getting an suv!even with airbag deployment and seatbelts.so much for the crumple zones,my baby had to be cut out of the car,my oldest was luckily ejected when her seatbelt broke or she more than likely wouldnt have live either.both vehicles were doing 55 mph.
thought id add both vehicles were on the brakes, but the speed before the accident was 55 mph.stupid drunk driver hit my daughters and sent them into oncoming traffic.

Extra safety is a LIE! extra visibility yes, but they are totally impractical, and most drivers can't drive them off road, or on road either. It's fashionable, and it's innane and dangerous, but big business is proffiting from it, so not everything is bad.

I'm from Alberta where it's winter half of the year. SUV's and Trucks are basically a necessity in these conditions, and because of our oil industry, trucks and SUV's are commonplace.

Most people want them because of their safety and reliability in these harsh conditions, but may also buy an AWD car.

For the same reason that they buy Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Coca Cola, and Nike shoes...

They like and want them. It really is that simple. When people want something, they buy it.

Thankfully I live in America, where gas is still below $3/gallon (not sure where you're getting $5/gallon other than the hogwash liberal media who just wants to scare you to go buy a Prius, which is garbage), and where we have the ability and freedom to drive whatever we want. I drove a Jeep cherokee around town for 2 years. It got 18mpg, isn't that large, and was incredibly practical. I don't know where you get the "flip over easy" thing, I've only ever seen a handful of vehicles rolled over, and most were...cars. They don't roll over as easily as you think, but they are more prone to it than a car.

because new ones suck.
all new cars pretty much is made up of fiberglass all on the outside and idk about you but i dont feel safe in something that cant protect me if i get in an accident.
new cars are putting more airbags that are actually killing people.
so why do you care if people are getting the car they want if they want to spend more on gas who gives a rats ass? its their problem they wanted it.
