why are pure titanium bikes more expensive then an alloy?

wouldn't a 6/4 or 3/2.5 of alluminium to vanadium be more expensive? Surely that would take more work. Could be to do with welding or something? Or is it because those alloys are more effective and thus produced on a larger scale? This is for a chemistry assignment as well as for general knowledge..
