Today we know everyone who claims to be a prophet is either lying or crazy. So it would follow that basing your life on their teachings is a bad idea. Wouldn't it make more sense to base your life on the teachings of someone who is smart?

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

God only used prophets until Jesus Christ came to The World. Now Jesus speaks for Christianity. This is why it's important to know the Bible. So anyone who is claiming to be a "prophet" or "prophetess" today is obviously in complete spiritual error. Knowing God's Word will help you know the real from the fake in this world. And most importantly it will help you know for certain whether you are going to Heaven or not. I hope you are!

Prophets were the holy men of the past, they claimed a direct line to God. It was the entertainment .

Stick to God's word in the bible and you won't be subject to false preaching or doctrine.

it's unfortunate that you cannot realize the message of god or recognize his messengers

Every prophet that ever existed was the exact same as Bernie Madoff

Indeed it would. Not all prophets were lying/crazy though. Of all the prophecies in the old testament, most of them came true!

prophets are Ambassadors For God, no one else has the right to teach the word of God without authority

i think amos 3:7 says it best

Who's to say Jesus wasn't smart? In the bible people weren't basing their life off of the prophets they're basing it off of God's message to the prophets...
