I have noticed several depictions (paintings, tapestry, even anime pics), of Japanese swordsmen (ronin, Samurai, etc.), in which they are paired with a young child, usually a little girl. Is this something with historical meaning?
I have seen Japanese manga characters that share the trait as well;
From Bleach- Kenpachi and Yachiru, and from InuYasha- Sesshoumaru and Rin, to name a few of the better-known ones.
Are these characters based off of a real person in history or just a common ronin traveling with a child?
I am confused about this... please help. Are there any real people behind this depiction, or was it just a common occurance?
