... and does this reflect on what is taught in US education establishments. Does anyone know what percentage of American citizens are practicing christians?

Maybe Americans are just more religious. If you want the stats your best bet is to check out the results from the US census. Those would probably be the most accurate.

I'm Iranian.

I wish more "English-speaking" people on YA were non-American so that Americans could get educated about the world. They don't have the opportunity to think outside their American box, because neither on the internet nor in their biased media and nor in the real world do they have the opportunity to meet people from other parts of the globe and that explains why their attitudes seem uneducated to the rest of us sophisticated people.

Another reason is, not all people can speak English.

As noted, you are posting on the U.S. Y!A forum.

Approximately 76% of Americans identify as Christian.

I would like to point out to "Iranian" that I am an American, and an atheist, and that while I may not have lived in other countries, I have spent time in ten countries on three continents. I have an education, I am a critical thinker and an avid reader, and I do not limit my reading to U.S. publications. Your implication that as an American I am inferior intellectually to non-Americans is completely unfounded and, I should add, bigoted.

I'm going to hazard a wild guess and say it's probably because you're posting this on Yahoo's American site,

Gee, I wonder if Yahoo! India is full of Indians? Let's go post a question there and find out.
