Why can't fighters use weapons in MMA?

An integral part of martial arts is the study and use of various weapons such as swords, throwing stars nunchucks, staffs, daggers, darts, etc. In order to truly embrace mixed martial arts, shouldn't competitors be permitted to use the weapons related to the marital art disciplines they've learned? Does anyone know of a fight league that does allow the use of weapons?
Nobody is talking about fighting to the death. Competitors would just be able to apply their years of training with martial arts weapons in direct competition with each other. Basic MMA rules would stay the same with submissions, knockouts, or judges decision being used to earn a victory.
 
hahahaha it would be awesome to see a good clubbing!

Also for a good weapon fight league... Why not walk into the police department and pull out your scythe. I promise you weapons will be involved. The only thing that sucks is that you can only have a one time engagement. That's the price you pay for a a really good weapons fight.
 
hahaha! yeah give them swords, flame throwers, and guns. Are you insane?
 
I once had a martial arts instructor that believed we would all one day would have to face a violent situation whether it be in war or in our every day life and he recommended that part of our martial arts training that we should learn to use a gun. Most of us joined a gun club for this training and we did not do it in our class. There is a time and place for everything and martial arts weapons in the mma cage or ring is the wrong place. Weapons training today is more for exercise and strength building and not for fighting. But there are places for weapons competition that are legal and safe like, kendo matches, and fencing matches.
 
MMA is a sport, and it requires sanctions to be performed publically. Those sanctions won't allow weapons, but you're welcome to let one of your friends smash you in the face with nunchucks in your back yard. :)
