Why can't I fully rip DVD's?

I'm using the full Xilisoft DVD ripper to rip rented DVDs. I put in a dvd in, click add files and then a huge list of files appear. there's at least 30 that are around 500MB in size, so there's no way I'd rip them all, so I select the biggest (512MB), rip that, but I can only watch like two thirds of it, what's happening?
