Why can't I use dial up internet with a digital phone line?

We now have digital phones have had them for several years and used dial up now and then and for the past 6 months now or so. All of a sudden the dial up just stopped and will not work at all. Does it have anything to do with the phone line being digital ( which it hadn't before) and / or anything to do with the transition from analog tv signals to digital? I wonder if it has affected phones . I know cell phones don't operator in analog anymore.
