...those guys trying to steal his car? Manslaughter at the very least he should have got 15 years to life for murder because he shot them down as they tried to get away. Daniel typed in his paper he would have got life if he had testified so I don't see how the judge only gives Derek three years when he clearly stepped on the guy's head right in front of Danny and the cops. They all saw him do it! I guess they didn't have enough evidence to give him the maximum sentence with parole so they opted for a minimum sentence. Still his experience in prison deeply changed who he is! Maybe self defense of his home was the reason for the light sentence still it really doesn't matter the length of the sentence because when you are there you are going to meet lots of angry people and have to listen to all that shouting but you still get fed and a cell to sleep in! I think prison system is society legal justic system way of giving people a humane punishment because they are keeping them alive instead of going straight for the death penalty no matter the crime committed: like for stealing a guy gets 6 months in jail instead of death so every little thing is not like death penalty automatic: just planned murder! I think some people would be really scared to violate any law if they knew the penalty was death every time for any infraction but some wouldn't care either way because they want something and they don't care what they have to do to get it!
