why did Hollywood choose to use costumes on WATCHMEN and not on THE X MEN?

I always wanted to see Wolverine in costume on the big screen versus in a tshirt and blue jeans

On the X-Men, Hollywood was trying to make the characters seem believable...at last as believable as mutant superheroes can be...and a lot of the comic costumes would just look ridiculous in a live-action movie.

On The Watchmen, the fact that the heroes wore bizarre costumes was actually a significant plot point in the comic book, so the directors sort of had to go with it. Even then, they updated the costumes a bit to make them more appealling on screen. Silk Spectre wears a latex outfit in the movie; in the comic it's a silk minidress; Night Owl looks more like Batman in the movie; in the comic he looks more like an Owl...sorta funny, actually.

first off x-men wear costumes on missions, second in watchmen the vilan is after costumed heros so they have to wear costumes, not to mention that in x men the heros are trying to fit in.
