Why did I find sperm near my bluebelly's vent the other day?

Okay, so yesterday I found my Western Fence Lizard basking as usual, but I found 2 symmetrical globs of...lizard seed, near his vent. I am trying to get him to breed with my female, so I am wondering if it's normal to have a little bit left over. It was a tiny bit, but what I want to know is did he mate with my female, or did he um...do it by himself?


No immature or bad answers please.
