Why did I have a vivid dream about the guy I like?

I had a vivid dream that me and the guy I like were sitting close to each other in the heavy rain and we were talking and he put his arm around my shoulders then I put my head on his shoulder and put my arm around his waist. Even though I was dreaming, I felt my heart beating faster because it felt soo real!
My question is: Why do we have vivid dreams? Are the messages? Or is my subconscious mind telling me about my feelings?
