...seemingly similar to Judaism? What were the doctrinal differences between Judaism & Islam? I can see why Muslims had a problem with Catholicism (because it introduced particular elements to Christianity that weren't part of the original religious texts) but it seems like Muslims viewed the Jewish religious texts as legitimate,
so why was there a need to start a new religion? Was this because Muhammad (according to himself) received revelations from God which stated that a new religious path needed to be followed? 'm confused about the reasons why the Jewish religion was lacking for Muslims, because Islam seems to sprout from Judaism/the Hebrew Bible, so obviously Muslims feel that the original tenets of Judaism are valid. So why did the split occur?
(Information online suggests that Muslims of the time felt they needed "to restore the original uncorrupted monotheistic faith of Adam, Moses, Jesus, & others".... But Judaism wasn't polytheistic, & I'm unaware of ways in which Jews supposedly corrupted the original faith, so I'm confused.)
In other words, what did Allah supposedly reveal to Muhammad which led him to believe Judaism was not a valid religion after all & that Islam was the real word of God?
Hope this makes sense.
