Why did Uchiha Madara disguise as (Tobi)?

Why did he became Tobi at first with that childish personality of his then after itachi's death he became serious? What was the point of disguising his identity?
 
The point is the enemy won't know who he is. And because of his childish personality people will underestimate him and then he'll have a better chance at defeating his enemies.
