Why do American rappers whine so much about "the ghetto?"?

Have they ever seen a third-world country? "The ghetto" in America = housing (often free or rent-controlled), free medical care, free public school, free welfare money, free food stamps, and all kinds of other stuff. Almost everybody in the ghetto has a TV and a cellphone and many have cars.

I mean, come on. That's not that bad.

Also, in America, anyone can succeed if they choose to succeed. You don't have to "sling rock" at the park. You are free to go to the public library and study instead, and get into a top college (and of course, there are A LOT of race-based scholarships for good students from the ghetto...)

I don't get it. Why are American rappers so whiny, when things in the ghetto are actually pretty good compared to some other parts of the world? What are they really complaining about? They have to drive a 2007 Escalade instead of a 2012 Escalade because their welfare payments can't cover the 2012's monthly fee?
