...particularly regarding discipline? I’ve noticed that a lot of the Christian callers during talk back radio and a few experiences I’ve had of Christians from an older generation, they like to whine about the lack of discipline with which parents today raise their children. Even on Youtube videos of misbehaving children, I’ve seen people with user names with some Christian jargon commenting about how, “Sparing the rod is spoiling the child” and, “If that was my kid, he’d get a whipping!” Is this a Christian behavior or is it more just the behavior of old people who like to whine?

It's because we don't relish the idea of supporting those kids with our tax dollars when they land in prison in a few years.

I don't think you should stereotype Christians as being the ones who persist on discipline. I understand a lot of what you are saying, though. I think the mentality of disciplining children has changed through generations, and most elderly people who were raised strictly don't understand the new generation of laid-back parents and non-physical punishment.I know my Grandparents especially like to give their comments about today's parenting and what it supposedly lacks. Also, the Bible commands "children obey your parents," which may be why so many Christians believe strongly in obedience and parental superiority. Honestly, I think it all depends on the different upbringings and opinions of the parents and how they choose to raise their own children, not on one particular religious or age group. :)
