Why do conservatives whine and moan about gas prices - but then when faced with...

...the only solution? Nationalizing the oil and gas industry and directing all domestic oil and gas for US use, and also enacting price controls.. they then balk?

Nationalizing the oil industry would further reduce the supply of oil and increase the cost of gasoline to the public

The reason for the high price of oil is that there is not sufficient supply

The Federal government has prevented the oil companies from drilling for oil to increase the supply of oil

Nationalizing the oil companies will not only not change that, it will make the problem worse

The people in the Federal Government who want to prevent the oil companies from drilling for more oil will now be in charge of the oil companies

That will do nothing to increase the supply of oil. In fact it will decrease the supply of oil and increase the price of oil..

Price controls will not solve the problem of inadequate supplies of oil.

Price controls merely make the problem worse by making oil production unprofitable

When oil production is made unprofitable people are not going to produce additional oil and they certainly will not drill for more oil.

People need adequate and affordable gasoline supplies so that they can drive to work and feed and clothe their families

Currently there is not enough gasoline on the market to meet the need of the population for gasoline

The only way to solve that problem is to increase the amount of domestic oil production.

Or we could simply drill more oil. With PRIVATE industry... you know, Americans.

We can do that while we create sustainable alternatives.

Why should we nationalize our banks, our auto industry, our unions, our health care and our oil?

We are on a slippery slope towards socialism.

Yeah lets let the people who put us $14 TRILLION in debt, have more control over our lives and money.

Actually, the obvious solution is to shift towards alternatives and to conserve by becoming more efficient.

This would reduce the trade deficit and be a national security improvement. however, some folks put corporate interests over patriotism

You want the government which has not proved it could run a two car funeral to take over the gasoline industry? History will show that everything the government tries to run gets totally ruined and run into bankruptcy in short order. We will all be riding bicycles to work if you get your way.

Come on. Use your head. Having the government take something over never leads to higher quality or lower prices. Never. That is silly to the point of idiotic.

They bank everything on drilling but the oil companies are not using the land grants they already have. And drilling will not change anything.

Detroit automakers and US consumers have consistently rejected fuel-efficient vehicles for huge gas-guzzling SUVs getting fewer than 19 miles per-gallon. But for a very brief period in the 1970s, Americans have shown their preference and insistence on being able to buy fuel wasting cars.

Nationalizing anything is anathema to conservative ideology. But they don't mind huge subsidies given to the oil industry for taking oil that belongs to the people of America. It's OUR oil, not the industry's.
