Why do English people say 'whinging' instead of 'whining'?

Is there actually a difference between 'whinging' and 'whining'? No one in America uses 'whinging.' If there is a difference, there must not be an American English equivalent, I guess. The red squiggly line even pops up because the computer thinks it is a typo. And it looks so awkward.
Also...'maths'? wtf. The abbreviation of mathematics is just 'math.'
