American Specialty Health is a Service Organization which administers Chiropractor-based Health Insurance Plans in the USA for ~12 million members, and affinity discount programs for ~80 million members. About 28,000 practitioners, — chiropractors, naturopaths, dietitians, massage therapists, etc — are health provisioners in the Provider Plan.

As can be judged by the provisioner list, ASH has a very altmed-friendly idea about what might be considered efficacious. However, even the ASH puts its foot down on the question of "Visceral Manipulation Techniques".
[Note: VM/VT/VO was discovered by a UK-trained Osteopath & Swiss Cow Observer JP Barral. Enthusiasts regard proper manipulation and positioning of the visceral organs (heart, liver, intestines, etc) as the keys to regaining and maintaining good health].

ASHA CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE. Rev 5, January 28, 2010:
"ASHA clinical committees have determined that Organ/Visceral Manipulation is not established as clinically effective, is not professionally recognized, poses a health and safety risk through Substitution Harm and Labeling Effects, and is considered to be unsafe...Based on the review conducted, ASHA is unaware of any published studies on the efficacy of this specific treatment."

By implementing this Practice Guideline, ASH announces its Health Benefit plans will not pay for Visceral Manipulation Therapies, and will exclude from the Plan any practitioner who uses Visceral Techniques.

Given that EVEN CHIROPRACTOR ORGANIZATIONS in the USA laugh at Visceral Osteopathy/Manipulation/Techniques, why does anyone persists in defending this delusional treatment modality?
