"The contest is really for empire on the side of the North and for independence on that of the South....".
London Times of 7 Nov 1861
Jason K- Bragging about the deaths of over 625,000 americans is very detestable.
Some did and most of the copperhead dems in northern states. And the reason was that be broke constitutional law around 14 times. Even using the whiskey rebellion legislation was wrong. Because that was only when part of a state tried to rebel against state government. Not state vs state. That law was upheld and voted for by washington himself to allow states if there rights were infringed upon to leave the republic. And the only way to get the states back was through diplomatic relations. War was not allowed. But it was used. habeas corpus was dismissed in 8 states another impeachable offense. And when he ratified west virginia another offense. plus he federalization of the Maryland capitol.
You want to know why? simple just read the Gettysburg Address it said that the survival of the federal government is more important than the survival of the freedoms it was created to protect.
Lincoln broke more laws(impeachable laws by the way) than any president in our history. Yet he's considered one of the greats. Which I never understood.
People tend to deify all the presidents who were the biggest mass murderers. It's a sort of sick justification that people come up[ with to try to convince themselves that they did not die in vain.
