I have a stove that burns natural gas and it vents into the room.

They both run on natural gas, so why does the furnace need to be vented. I know it is supposed to be vented, and mine is, but I don't understand why.

I have a CO (carbon monoxide) detector and it doesn't go off when I put it in the exhaust stream from the furnace.

This is not the "comedy" category so save your jokes. ***WHY*** (scientific facts) natural gas furnaces are supposed to be vented. I am trying to work on appliance efficiency and was hoping anybody on yahoo answers actually knows what they are talking about?

Do you know the exact products of natural gas combustion in a furnace?
How do they differ from my non-vented stove?.
