why do hindu gods and the budda are called Lord krishna, Lord Buddha?

why aren't they called God Krishna or God buddha or I don't know if they Gods or Prophets in Hinduism and Buddhism
 
b/c that's the way they're called in english, in hindi, Lord Krishna is called Bhagavan Krishna, which does mean God Krishna etc, and Lord Buddha is called 'enlighted one' in hindi etc, it just sounds like that when translated into english, b/c it's the british who came up with these translations when they used to rule India
