Why do my kittens run off?

Thanks for looking, I've had my female cat for two years now and whenever she has kittens they usually stay until they are about 15 weeks old then they just mysteriously run off, this has happened for the last three times now. Is this just something that cats do? Cheers

Not so much an answer, but a plea for you to HAVE YOUR CAT FIXED. Everytime you allow this to happen, you are contributing to the number of strays and unwanted animals that roam the streets. It is unfair for them to be doomed to such a life. Please, have her fixed so that she stops having needless litters. It is better for everyone (too many litters can seriously harm her).
