Why do my Nokia c6 headphones not work properly in my ipod?

I have tried using the headphones that came with my Nokia C6 but they do not work properly in my iPod unless I press the button that it in the middle of the headphones.
Why does it do that? I used to use the headphones for the Nokia N79 with my iPod, and they worked perfectly.
Obviously I could buy some new headphones but I dont want to just yet, I'd rather just have one set of headphones for now.

its coz the plug hole and plug wired a bit diferently.

ipod:
sleeve: mic
ring 2: ground
ring 1: right out
tip: left out

headset
sleeve: ground
ring 2: mic
ring 1: right out
tip: left out


you can make an adaptor that crosses the ground and mic wires to the right place
for using with your ipod
