Why do my subs sound weird?

I have two alpine type E's hooked up to an alpine M.R.P. M500 amp. I wired it down to 2ohms, but it sounds like theirs a bit of static coming from the amp, and the subs don't hit as hard as they used to. I had previously owned the sub but it broke so i bought the same exact one. Now it doesn't want to hit as hard and it sounds so weird. Any suggestions?
