Why do people complain about gasoline prices but do nothing about it?

I don't get this mentality. And whenever you offer solutions, all you get are excuses. You suggest that people drive a smaller car, and you are met with screams of safety (in a roll-over prone SUV nonetheless), not being "manly", "I'd rather pay for the extra fuel", and mentions of that one time 2 years ago when they actually needed a truck (which they could have just rented). You suggest people stop living so freaking far away from work, and again, more excuses. Seems some people are a glutton for punishment.

Just what are we supposed to do about it? We don't set the prices. I have a car that gets good mileage, etc etc but the prices just need to come down for it to be easier.
