Why do people say "It's just the internet" or "Get a life" when reffering to

those who make close friends here? Not on this website, but on another: I have a bunch of people I regularly talk to and we've become great friends via the internet.

I think the internet is just a way of communicating, so I see no problem with people who like to spend time getting to know others or visiting websites more than once, as long as it's not 24/7.

I have met wonderful people online. The internet is part of nearly everybody's day-to-date life, and isn't uncommon, so you'd think people would be used to it by now.

Also, just because people come to certain sites regularly and have online friends, doesn't mean they "have no life outside of the computer". I certainly do.

I just think it's a good way to talk to those people who you aren't fortunate enough to live close to, and you can learn a lot from it too.

Discuss?

They are probably just jealous that someone else has got what they want..
E.g... really good friends online...
It's also silly when they say that because they can't have noticed that they themselves are online.
A bit contradictory really for them people that say it.
I've made some great friends online.

People think this because they see people like you as "anti-social" and "so desperate for friends that they befriend strangers" because apparently everyone on the internet is a loser

Of course that's not my take on internet friendships, I believe its a great idea, as long as you don't meet creepers
