Why do people say "No homo"?

It irks me when people say that... A compliment is a compliment, get over it.
 
People who are really dumb say that. They are afraid to look gay, even though they obviously aren't gay.
 
Because there is such hate attributed towards the gay and lesbian community..so if a guy says to another guy "Nice shirt (no homo)" they are trying to stay away from being stereotyped as gay
 
No homo mean they are afraid of calling gay or exactly emphasis homophobia
 
Society has gotten so use to gays that some people suspect that every person that says anything nice about the same sex is gay. A few years ago it wasn't a normal thing to say this because society wasn't so accepting of gays, but now your best same-sex friend could be gay. This leads people to say no homo to make sure their friends don't think they are gay. Don't take it personally if you do.
 
i thinks its a real life meme when someone straight is like "those shoes are cute...NO HOMO"
