It seems that these days "lol" doesn't mean what it used to and now is just used to end a sentence. I find this somewhat annoying, about as annoying as teenagers who say "like" constantly. Why is this done?

Just as using the word "like" in a sentence. To many times, using the abbreviation "lol" is a habbit of many teens. I know I deffiantly can't go a few sentences without saying "lol" because it just feels weird without it. "lol" is also used when I want a person to know I'm kidding and to not take what I said seriously such as "your so mean! Lol" the reason I put "lol " in there was to lighten up the sentence and make it sound less harsh because I was just joking. My Friends don't mind the overuse of "lol" and I quite frankly don't see any harm to it... So whatever lol!

It's sometimes hard to understand a person's intended tone when you're just reading text, so people write LOL so that you know that they are being lighthearted.

and it is ANNOYING!!!!

This is done due to the invention of "slang" now everyone is busy typing in "lol" "jk" "ttyl" etc all because it's faster, cooler, etc there are many reasons. People also use LOL to end sentences when they don't know what to say or want to make sure that you don't take what they said seriously.

Hello ,

In fact I find such abbreviations very confusing and ,also corrupts the beauty of the English language . I don't use it at all .

Have a nice day.
