Why do so many people buy the largest / most-gas-guzzling SUV they can...

...find, then complain about gas prices? What next; maybe they will buy a tractor-trailer rig and drive that to get some beer or milk at the corner shop?

Is it always; "My truck is bigger than yours, so I must be more important than you! " type of thing?
 
I always thought that people that bought big trucks and cars did so because they had big families or used their trucks for delivery or traveling with luggage. There are also people that do car pooling so I don't know that they are all just trying to compete but I can say that 10 years ago I bought a truck because I had 2 kids and was doing a lot of traveling and as the gas prices started to go up it really started to bother me so a few months ago I sold it and got a small car!
 
Statistics state that the average person feels safer, however this false sense of safety has risen to the fact that they are more likely to be involved in a turn over (clover leaf turn) then in an accident.
