author of Genesis 30:37-39? A simple reading of the story would suggest that it is JACOB that had flawed ideas of how the colors of offspring might be impacted by seeing peeled/banded rods at their watering troughs. [Of course, some experts claim that some cultures use peeled sticks of wood to chemically treat the drinking water of their animals in order to induce heat and improve fertility.] But isn't this simply a case where the Bible describes what happened without claiming that Jacob's actions had a genuine scientific impact?
And couldn't God have providentially blessed Jacob's portion of the flocks, regardless of genetics issues?
