Why do some people get so offended by some types of humor?

We all know the old saying that goes, laughter is the best medicine. But in order for there to be laughter, there obviously has to be humor & in order for there to be any type of humor, there has to be love. Because if we didn't have love, then we wouldn't have any type of humor either. I'm sure some people know that any family that has a close relationship is bound to have some characters in it. And those characters are perfect examples of how no matter what kind of humor is being expressed, there's bound to be love behind it. Even the sickest jokes with the dirtiest words could still have love behind them.
 
The love you speak of has to include sensitivity and intelligence. A loving person pays attention to which forms of humor go over best with which people, and doesn't subject people to those forms of humor he knows will offend them.
 
yah, I agree with the other people who've already answered.

There are certain categories of jokes that can offend some people (rasist, sexist, etc.)
but I don't think people in general are actually racist or sexist. It's just funny to think of those stereotypes because they are (for the most part) grounded in truth.
So you can't really avoid them.

We should just laugh at the jokes like they are meant to be, and move on, no?
 
I think that some people take things more seriously and some jokes may offend others because they've touced a nerve. We all have our own opinions , and somepeople just may not find certain subjects funny.
 
Sometimes people are uncomfortable thinking or talking about certain things, so if you joke about it they might feel offended because they don't want to think or talk about that topic. Just because something is a "joke" doesn't always make it okay. Yes words can just be words, a joke is just a joke, but words express intention or direction, and if you are directing someone's thoughts towards something they don't like then they may have a right to be offended. Don't think of it like "it's just a joke, lighten up," because all humor has some seriousness behind it.

In other words, don't think of what you say in separate categories like "joke" vs "serious" because either way, some people just don't want to talk about dead babies, or how dumb black people are, or anal sex. Many of these things can also be just considered annoying/gross and therefore offensive.
