Why do teachers keep complaining that they are underpaid?

In our district they get every Thursday afternoon off for "professional development" but yet are seen at the local mall, plus they get a week off for Christmas, Spring Break, and then Summer break. I say give me a break when you calculate the hourly wage they are doing just fine.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there are people who like to teach because I know I would't have the patience to do it.
Kudos to Totally in Love, I hope you keep that attitude for a very long time, Dragon Lady, you are the epitome of what is wrong with people in the teaching profession today. People in other jobs have many of the same struggles and are required to work on nights weekends in order to do more with less. If you don't like it get out!!

I don't know. In my area they have very good benefits, a pension (almost unheard of in any other business), work a short day and nine months a year. Wish I had followed mom's advice and become one myself. Oh yeah, there is that having to deal with all the spoiled brats thing.
