why do the terms STM and ETM matter when we discuss trade?

Simply Transformed Manufacturers(STM) and Elaborately Transformed Manufacturers(ETM)
 
Australia's trade according to the level of processing, eg. ETM (Elaborately Transformed Manufactures), STM (Simply Transformed Manufactures), processed food and other primary products. Australian produced exports are published separately from total exports.
