Chlorine but marks in my carpet, put wholes in my clothes, can take color out of things - It is a very corrosive chemical.

My tap water has such a strong smell of chlorine, I shouldn't even have to add bleach to my laundry.

So why would they put it in water?

If this chemical can put a whole in clothing, then what does it do to the lining of your stomach if you drink it?

chlorine simply kills all the bacteria in the water.
hlorination is the process of adding the element chlorine to water as a method of water purification to make it fit for human consumption as drinking water. Water which has been treated with chlorine is effective in preventing the spread of disease.

The chlorination of public drinking supplies was originally met with resistance, as people were concerned about the health effects of the practice. The use of chlorine has greatly reduced the prevalence of waterborne disease as it is effective against almost all bacteria and viruses, as well as amoeba.

To get rid of the bacteria in water. Buy a water purifier and it will get rid of all that including the chlorine.
