What, you'd prefer they used a Chevy Malibu or something?

But Jeeps were phased out decades ago. The HUMVEE is the standard small auto now. It can transport more troops and gear, is faster, and more rugged. It's also capable of accepting "snap-on" armor upgrades if the situation calls for it, while the Jeep didn't offer much shelter to passengers.

First of all, Jeeps are known to be tough. Most importantly, many military transportation needs diesel engine because it can produce much more torque than any other car engines. Those engines are used only in larger car like jeeps and trucks. Therefore, jeeps become the more favorable than normal cars.

The US Military doesn't use many jeeps anymore. That was during the World War II era. Jeeps at the time, and still are well known for being rugged and their off-roading capabilities.

Now the military uses Humvees, but those are going to be slowly replaced with a new type of vehicle that is resistant to IED's. (Basically a home-made bomb)
