I recently went to India for a month and came back to the U.S. In America when I say India has poverty, slums and corruption, they aren't too surprised but when I say that we have a large middle class and that I often go clubbing and to fancy malls, they don't believe me or don't care. I often get asked if I went on a elephant and if I got robbed in India...Once I also got asked if Indians are educated. Why do people have this perception of India? India is a beautiful and growing country but it seems like people don't realize this or ignore it. Am I correct or wrong because anytime I say anything positive about India to Americans they are either surprised or don't care but if I say anything negative they say "yeah well it's a third world country"...Is that what most Americans really think of India?
