why does everyone think MMA is harder than any other combat sport?

Ive been in cage fights, am currently training for boxing, and will be a lifetime martial arts practitioner. Still in all my experience MMA is easiest because you can fall back on other skills if your losing in one field. If your losing in boxing, you either punch faster and more accurate, move more, or stop getting hit. In MMA you have those options plus you can grapple if your grecko is good or you can test his ground game, which breaks into Brazilian jujitsu and olympic wrestling.

MMA suffers a double-edged sword. You are completely right, it is easier, because you can fall back on a multitude of other skills and areas if one isn't working out, but that same advantage is also a disadvantage. You have to be looking for every possibility, every action your opponent makes. Every skill you can fall back on is just another they could use, and something you have to prepare for. Not to mention, they may know something you never expected or didn't even know about, and in MMA, chances are it's legal.
