Why does Flixster charge me to make a digital copy of a DVD I already own?

I tried out that Disk to Digital thing, but for some ridiculous reason they make me pay money to basically buy a movie I already own. Is there another program like Flixster that is free, and doesn't charge me to make digital copies of my DVDs.
